Discover the Dysport Difference

Frown lines – a matter of expression

Glabellar lines, or “frown lines,” are vertical wrinkles on the forehead that appear between the eyebrows. This is not totally related to the aging process. Because frown lines are created by facial expressions and movement. (for example during the frowning and squinting), they can actually start to appear at a younger age. The appearance of the lines can become worse as the collagen in that area of the forehead breaks down.

There are several factors, in addition to facial expression, that can cause or worsen the appearance of frown lines including:

Sun Exposure – UV light in the sun can damage collagen
Aging – can create a loosening of collagen fibers and increased skin elasticity
Smoking – can reduce the amount of new collagen produced
Effective treatments for this area can help by reducing the muscle activity in the forehead, which will helps smooth the wrinkles and create a younger appearance.

What is Dysport?

Dysport is an injection used to temporarily improve the look of your moderate to severe frownlines without changing the look of your whole face. The untreated facial muscles still work normally, allowing you to freely show natural facial expressions, such as smiling, in untreated areas.

How does Dysport work?

Dysport blocks the signal from the nerve to the treated muscle, which temporarily reduces movement of certain upper facial muscles that cause wrinkles. You should not be treated with Dysport more frequently than every 90 days.

Treatment with Dysport generally takes just 10 to 20 minutes.

How can Dysport help?

With just 1 treatment, Dysport will temporarily erase your frown lines by blocking the signal from the nerve to the muscles. By doing this, Dysport will relax the muscles that cause the deep lines and wrinkles on the forehead.

How soon will I see results?

Some patients see results as soon as 24 hours with the average time for full results being 3 days.

How can I maintain my results?

The improvement seen with Dysport are only temporary, You may want to book your next appointment about 12 weeks after your treatment if needed. Your doctor will be able to tell you how often you can get injections of Dysport.

Botox Cosmetic Work

How does BOTOX Cosmetic® work?

BOTOX Cosmetic® is the only product of its kind that is directed at the facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. It targets what are known as dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by repeated muscular contractions, such as frowning and squinting. BOTOX Cosmetic®, an injectable treatment derived from a purified protein, works by relaxing the muscles that cause these dynamic wrinkles, giving your face a more relaxed and refreshed appearance. Best of all, regular use of this simple treatment will soften expression lines and help to “stop the clock” on the development or further deepening of lines. In addition, treatment is so quick and easy that you can often have it done over lunch.

The BOTOX Cosmetic® Procedure BOTOX Cosmetic® injections are performed without anesthesia because they are virtually painless. Only a very small sting is felt when the injections are made. The effects are not permanent and may need to be repeated two to three times per year to retain the effects. Research has suggested, however, that long-term use of the injections leads to a longer duration of each treatment’s effect. Patients over the age of 65 may not experience such dramatic results. BOTOX Cosmetic® is only useful in treating expression lines and cannot be used to repair sagging skin caused by aging.

A History of Success

While you may only know BOTOX Cosmetic® as a wrinkle treatment, it has actually been in use for over 18 years for the effective treatment of a range of medical conditions. In fact, it’s been approved for medical use in Canada and in more than 75 countries for 20 different applications. Today, BOTOX Cosmetic® has become the most popular doctor-administered cosmetic treatment in North America with an estimated three million treatments performed annually.

Interestingly enough, the highest user of BOTOX® in British Columbia is BC’s Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, utilizing the treatment for a variety of medical conditions in children.
